THE MEANING OF FOOD

Food is anything either solid or liquid processing chemical composition which enables it when swallowed to do one or more these three things

  • To provide the body with materials from which it can do work, producing heat or form of energy
  • Provide material for growth maintenance , repairs of tissues and reproduction
  • Supply substances which normally regulate the production of energy the process of growth , tissue repairs and reproduction.
Good food is the basis of good health and wellbeing , the food we should eat must be able to give our body energy and protect the body from disease

  1. ENERGY BUILDING FOODS
The foods or their products help in building up the cells in the body and thus are essential in the growth of new cells material or in the repairs of worn out tissues. This is the most important and  primary function of protein minerals salts also helps.

FOOD may also be classified into ;

  • organic food are produced by urin organisms and contained carbon e.g carbohydrate , fats, protein & vitamins.
  • Inorganic food are such food as mineral salts and water
